Van the Man Band is a genuine “con-amore” project, made possible by twelve experienced musicians who share a common passion for Van Morrison’s musical universe and unique lyrics.
The band’s joy of opening and exploring Morrison’s treasure chest of brilliant songs is leading to great live performances, where the audience –young and old- have no other choice or wish than to have a great time and party with the band.
The band was reunited in 1997 after having been put on hold since 1993. Four of the members of the recent formation have been with the band since the start back in 1988.
The updated version of Van the Man Band are committed to a respectful and realistically sounding show, covering a wide spectrum of the almost 400 titles written by Van Morrison.
Van the Man Band includes the traditional rock formation as well as piano, Hammond and a 4-piece brass section, which makes it possible to create the great sound that is characteristic for Van Morrison’s long and successful time with Georgie Fame and the band from the nineties. The sound is American. The songs are ballads, jazz, blues and soul. There is a simplicity and a sence of “I’ve-heard-it-before” in the music. Van Morrison said it himself during a concert a couple of years ago: ”This may sound like something from the fifties, well it is supposed to……”
In spite of it’s American expression, the music is unmistakably Irish. Van Morrison is definitely a citizen of the world; but his production has the twist of melancholy and seriousness, that is a given part of even the most light-hearted and –spirited lyrics and music from the “Emerald Isle”. After several successful concerts at festivals and in clubs, Van the Man Band has established itself as a talented and skillful band, that appeals to a big audience.
